In a recognizable palette of vivid colors and dominant greens, Julie Susset superimposes and brings into dialogue memories of natures she has sold herself. Parks, tropical greenhouses, trees lining the streets - these are all natures constructed and ordered by man, which the young painter seizes upon. Painting was a necessity for Julie Susset. Self-taught, she started painting again when she was in Paris, and found in these plant representations a new lease of life. A need to get away from it all, a need to return to simple things, which gives us a glimpse of the anxious side that big cities can have on artistic creation. In "all-over" works where paint gushes, flows and stretches, it's a question of matter, color and, above all, gesture. With the great freedom afforded by the medium of paint, Julie questions fantasies, the way our imagination constructs them and sometimes becomes saturated with this idealization.
"I PAINT AS I LIVE"
"I paint as I live! Instinctively, spontaneously and quite freely! There are no plans, no rules (although I do have a few rituals). I start with images, memories and emotions. My studio work is always accompanied by music. I like the idea of transcribing the energy of the moment (and its rhythm) in a fluid, dance-like movement. I often paint in a rush, in a breath... I'll use my hands and forearms to create the effects I want; my whole body is at work.
My painting is a never-ending series! But in the broad sense of the theme, not in the sense of decor or landscape. Vegetation is only the final layer visible on my canvases. Hidden behind the attractive colors and dreamlike landscapes, there is above all human nature, alive and well, and its multiple emotions... I have a childlike wonder in the face of nature's beauty... that commands respect and humility."
